The Tamar Valley area has a famous market gardening tradition, and our farmer's markets are all well worth a visit. Fresh, seasonal local veg, delicious cakes, buns, scones and jams, and locally reared meats are some of the foody delights to be found at our many local markets. Many of them also offer local crafts, beer, art and sculpture and all of them are fascinating places for a wander round and a chat with the stall-holders.
|Tamar Grow Local||
Tamar Grow Local (TGL) is a 'not for profit' Community Interest Company (CIC) set up on co-operative principles for the benefit of the community. This structure allows trading and has the ability to create a number of more specialist co-operative ventures under its umbrella to meet demand. The area covered is the Tamar Valley, which includes the market towns of Tavistock, Launceston, Callington and Saltash.
Our activities focus on three main areas:
|Altarnun Craft and Local Produce Market||
Altarnun Market is a new venture which started in July 2016 but which promises to become a thriving and popular venue.
It is held monthly on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 2-4pm.
Most markets are held in the mornings but it was decided to hold this in the afternoon as there has been nowhere in the village for the increasing number of visitors to get a cup of tea and refreshment. Altarnun has appeared as the venue for the marriage of Doc Martin and Louisa as well as featuring in Daphne Du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn.
